We took a short family trip to Philadelphia to visit some old friends and "check it out". It was a nice family time and also got me some needed time out of the office. For dinner, the notable event was going for Moroccan food at Marrakesh. Marrakesh has been around so long that I even ate there in college when visiting friends at Penn. It doesn't seem quite so exotic or fascinating now. But, Ali sure enjoyed her first Moroccan food (and explain to me how we can take her to Moroccan restaurants at age 4.5 and she eats well and loves it but won't touch a plain steamed string bean at home?!?!? And she got a kick out of the belly dancer although she wouldn't get up and dance with her (although both Nabil and I did).
We didn't make it to the Liberty Bell but were able to go to the Please Touch Museum and Franklin Institute as well as the Christmas Tea at the hotel where we were staying. The Please Touch Museum is the most wonderful children's museum we have experienced and much more extensive than the similar museums in NY or Dallas. It is in the old Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park so the drive up is incredible (Fairmount being much bigger than Central Park or Fair Park) and the museum is HUGE - dedicated solely to kids under 10. In addition to playing in the supermarket and going on the antique carousel, Ali also sat through a performance. Ali also got to go to the Franlin Institute which is the tried and true science museum as well as playing in the Please Touch Museum playspace at the airport on Sunday while waiting to leave Phila (and then spending three hours on the ground before taking off on the tarmac, which she loved). All in all, a great trip!
